Flux & Fusing: Play to Earn Returns

Update: This blog is outdated as the Forge has reopened with a new process and look! Head to latest blog to find out how fusing works.

Right now there’s a common misconception that gaming is a poor time investment. Admittedly you don’t often get real world value from your efforts in-game (unless you’re an esports fiend that is). Play to Earn is a concept that is set to change this – as season one draws closer – we’re taking the next big step towards monetizing your playtime by introducing core market fusing!

Introducing... Flux

For the uninitiated here’s a quick summary: ranking up in Gods Unchained rewards players with assorted core cards. Once a player collects enough copies of a core card, they can fuse those cards into an evolved version that can be sold for real-world currency. How, you ask? Follow me...

Plenty of Flux to be given

The mechanic driving this process is Flux, a new in-client resource that can be used to upgrade your core cards. This resource cannot be bought or sold, rather earned through specific Ranked Constructed wins. The amount of Flux you earn for each win will be governed by your current rank as well as how many games you’ve won in a new challenge known as ‘The Gauntlet of the Gods’. Basically: the higher your rank and the more Gauntlet games you’ve won, the more Flux you’ll get.

Running the Gauntlet

Ranked Constructed’s new best friend: The Gauntlet of the Gods, is a timed challenge that rewards you for victory and versatility – it’s also the only way to earn Flux. Your Gauntlet run will begin automatically when you win your first ranked game for the day, activating the god that aligns with the deck you just won with.

For example, if you claim victory using a Death deck, Malissus will be the first to activate and you’ll earn your first bit of Flux. Congratulations, Mortal! You’re only just getting started…

Alongside Malissus, you’ll also activate the two adjacent gods on the gauntlet, in this case that’s Aeona (Nature) and Auros (War), though this exact order will be random every rotation. Winning a game using a deck aligned to one of these newly activated gods will unlock a further god, providing you with more opportunities to earn Flux. In the above example, victory with a War deck will then unlock Elyrian (Magic) and so on.

V is for Victory Versatility

While you can play unlimited games with the same god, Flux will only be awarded for your first three triumphs with each. The Gauntlet aims to truly test those mortals who dare take up its challenge, favoring those who are able to appease all deities equally. This means you can earn Flux for a total of 18 games per Gauntlet (three with each god) and the amount of Flux awarded scales with each Gauntlet victory.

Unlock your gods

But be warned! While there is no punishment for losing a game, The Gauntlet of the Gods resets every 24 hours, regardless of how many games you’ve played. You gain more Flux the further you are able to progress through the Gauntlet, and a reset each day means you’ll start from the beginning: earning the base amount of Flux for your rank.

Flux By Numbers

Base Flux is rewarded for each match a player wins in Ranked Constructed mode. The amount of the reward depends on the number of times that player has won with that and other gods before the system resets. Along with the player's rank.

Depending on the player ranking, these are the projected min. and max. outcomes at launch*

  • Flux awarded for Bronze rank full Gauntlet = 65.5
  • Flux awarded for Mythic rank full Gauntlet = 1,310

*Note: These are subject to change as the system is improved in future iterations.

Fusing in the Forge

Here’s where the ‘Earn’ part of ‘Play to Earn’ comes in. After you have gathered enough Flux, you can then head to the Forge to upgrade your core cards. If you have two identical plain cards, you can spend Flux to fuse them into an upgraded Meteorite version of that card, adding the asset to the blockchain and creating a card with a real world value.

The new & improved Forge

The amount of Flux required to fuse core cards differs depending on your card’s rarity-level:

  • Common: 20 Flux
  • Rare: 40 Flux
  • Epic: 120 Flux
  • Legendary: 200 Flux

Due to the amount of complex crypto-magic involved in adding something to the blockchain, fusing can take up to a few minutes. But once you’re done, you’ll have a brand new asset to take into the arena, sell in the Marketplace or simply gaze at in your collection, getting lost in the mesmerising glow of Meteorite, the way the deep red shines with the rich majesty of space is like… uh, sorry… where were we?

Future Fusings

This is only the first step in our plans for Flux, fusing and the Forge. Eventually, we will look to enable fusing all the way to Diamond tier. This process will work a little differently to core market fusing and will be rolled out over a series of stages.

While we’d love to release the whole process in one big drop, we’re very conscious that this is something that’s never been done before and we’re determined to get it right. That’s why we’re taking things step-by-step to ensure everything is secure, functional and feeding into a healthy economy.

For now, the Forge has opened its doors, there’s Flux to be had and the challenge laid by The Gauntlet of the Gods awaits!
