It’s said that the chance of winning a lottery is 1 in 300 million. The chance of winning the one-of-a-kind card, Temnys, of Thebia, Chronicle, from the Divine Order raffle had much smaller odds. Today, we’re taking a stroll down memory lane to relive that moment of victory with CastleBravo.
Welcome, CastleBravo, we're pleased to chat with you. Do shed some light on who you are, your passions and when you got into crypto
I’m CastleBravo, a 30 y/o who loves gaming, snowboarding and rock climbing. My favourite games include Gods Unchained, Factorio, Oxygen Not Included, Rust, Age of Empires and Dota2.
Since 2012 I’ve been experimenting with blockchain technology and imagining new use cases. I see it as a way to bring fairness, accountability and transparency to many things but, most importantly, corporations.
When did you hear about Gods Unchained, and what were your first reactions to it?
I came across the game in November or December 2020 while searching for solid crypto projects with real use cases. Having played Magic: The Gathering as a kid, I saw Trading Card Games would have longevity if NFTs were added to the gaming model. I fell down the rabbit hole of ‘blockchain gaming’, but GU was the only game that stuck - it’s a fun game and has the ability to go mainstream.
In that case, I have to ask - do you play the game?
I do play! I go through phases where I get sucked up into other games or living life, but Gods Unchained has remained consistently in my repertoire long enough for me to say it's not going anywhere!
What’s your favourite card, and do you have a favourite deck?
Not counting Temnys, A Toast to Peace, Clone, Portal Wrangler - to make more Temnys! If I didn't have the mythic, probably Takhat, The Forgotten. As for decks, the one I used against Copper Pitch is perhaps my fave as I built it without much help from GU Decks. I added Tyet, Heir to the Sky to it, and it’s pretty damn satisfying when it drops.
I’m excited to hear about what you felt the moment you found out you won Temnys of Thebia, Chronicle. Do you recall?
I felt like a lottery winner! It’s not a daily occurrence where you get lucky enough to win a one-in-a-kind Mythic card. I remember calling my friend and yelling in excitement, haha. It was an adrenaline rush the entire day. Growing up, we weren’t very well enough to do, so this was like a dream come true.
Do you have plans to sell your Mythic? Or are you diamond-handing it?
Times are complex, and the future of financial markets looks uncertain. Even then, I firmly believe that now is a poor time to sell much, given the lack of knowledge about NFTs. So, I will continue to spend my days in the arena. After all, how can you go from owning a Mythic to playing like a mere peasant?!
What’s the secret to winning against Temnys?
Because my Mythic lets me control the narrative, it’s hard for any opponent to win. Making the correct decisions with the delve is tricky at times, though; rush decks don't always leave much room for error. I can draw any card in the game, which is a blessing like no other while playing. But of course, there are two sides to every story, so sometimes my opponent has their plans that jinx mine.
What would it be and why if you could pick any card?
Other Mythics like duh! Too cruel? Probably, Asenath Hand of the Pharaohs legendary. I like Anubians way too much.
What’s the one thing you like most about the game?
Deckbuilding, hands down. I like to see what I can get away with unaided, but it is difficult making decks competitive. I love to use decks where I can make more copies of Temnys and turn the game into a chaotic mess whether the opponent wants it or not.
What advice would you give to players who want to collect valuable cards?
Honestly, just go for it! If you don’t try, you’ll never succeed, I believe, which is why I always take a chance. My decision to go ham into GU paid off pretty massively throughout the last two years. For instance, Omox, the Mad still hasn’t been found. But these are trying times, so be careful of misinformation and stay for the long haul - the tech. Don't let whales shake you out. Good luck!
